Commission To Give Final Consideration To Alcohol Sales Guidelines

Members of the board that governs the City of Lawrenceburg will meet in regular session on Thursday to consider the final adoption of guidelines under which alcohol will be sold within the city limits.

Members of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Commissioners approved the adoption of ordinance 1021 on first reading during their May 3 meeting. City voters approved the sale of hard liquor during their May 1 meeting and commissioners are working to put guidelines into place as quickly as possible.

Officials indicate that at least four individuals have expressed intent to obtain licensure to establish a liquor store. Without guidelines in place, city officials have no authority to govern such sales.

The ordinance approved on first reading was drafted by City Attorney Alan Betz, based upon the model ordinance from the Municipal Technical Advisory Service. Commissioners may make some changes during Thursday’s meeting.

The meeting, which is open to the public, is slated to get underway at 6:00 p.m. Thursday inside the commission meeting room of the Lawrenceburg City Administration Building on West Gaines Street.
